Vehicle Safety

Why do vehicle inspections in out of province fail?

If you’ve purchased a vehicle from outside of Alberta, you will have to get an Out of Province Vehicle Inspection . Edmonton automotive shops like Revolution Motors offer vehicle inspections that get you one step closer to registering your vehicle in Alberta. In fact, the registrar will not register your new car or truck until it has passed an Out of Province Vehicle Safety Inspection and you have the proper documentation.

Because Alberta Transportation’s safety standards differ from many other provinces, inspections are necessary. Inspections are essential to ensure safety for everyone on the roads.

Checklist for Vehicle Inspections in Other Provinces

Inspections are a safety and mechanical check that must be done by a licensed journeyman mechanic, who is licensed under Alberta Transportation’s Vehicle Inspection Program. The inspection takes approximately two hours to complete at our Edmonton shop and covers nearly all components of the vehicle, including:

  • Electric systems
  • Glass
  • Defrosters and wipers
  • Steering
  • Lights
  • Brakes
  • Engine controls
  • Emissions and fuel systems
  • Powertrain
  • Driveline
  • Suspension
  • Wiring and lighting
  • Tires
  • Condition of the body

Revolution Motors will also inspect the vehicle to ensure that it is structurally sound. Revolution Motors will inspect the vehicle for signs of damage or repairs that have been done in the past. The body and frame may also be affected by corrosion.

Common Reasons Vehicle Inspections in Out of Province Fail

Surprisingly is the leading reason vehicles fail. Out of Province Vehicle Safety Inspections are typically not serious mechanical problems and are relatively simple to fix. There are some things that you can do before you bring your vehicle in for inspection.

Wipers

A failing windshield wiper inspection is enough reason to fail. Although it may seem minor, compromising visibility can be dangerous. Replace your wiper blades if they aren’t functioning well, or have visible chips or tears before you bring your car in.

Lights out of order

It is possible to make a difference between passing and failing by simply changing a headlamp. Turn on the lights and walk around the vehicle. Have someone switch on your hazard lights and indicator lights and then press the brake. Before you go to an out-of-province vehicle inspection, you can easily and affordably replace your lights.

Cracks in windshield

Although windshield replacements aren’t necessarily as expensive as lights and wipers, if the glass is damaged, the vehicle won’t pass inspection.

Brakes need replacing

Your vehicle may not pass inspection if your brake shoes or pads are too worn out and long overdue for service. Reliable brakes are essential for safe operation of a motor vehicle. Revolution Motors’ professional and highly trained technicians can quickly fix or replace your vehicle’s brakes.

Tires that are worn

A vehicle that has very little thread on its tires will fail to pass out-of-province vehicle inspections. Revolution Motors can offer a variety of tires and have them installed for you , if your vehicle requires them.

Make sure your engine light is on

There is a problem. It’s not obvious what the problem is. Revolution Motors can run an electronic diagnostic on your vehicle to help you determine the cause. We can’t pass your vehicle if it’s on because you won’t be able to tell if it’s severe or mild until the diagnostic is run.
